Earlier this year, the AI Action Summit in Paris co-hosted by Emmanuel Macron (French president) and Narendra Modi (India Prime Minister) brought together over 1,000 leaders from 100+ countries to chart the future of artificial intelligence. The summit emphasised inclusive, ethical, and innovation-driven AI, with over $700 billion pledged toward infrastructure, open-source safety tools, and industrial adoption. A coalition of 20 major European firms pledged €250 billion over 5 years to accelerate AI adoption across industry (“AI Champions Initiative”).
Australia played a key role, signing the inclusive AI declaration and co-chairing sessions on trusted AI. The message was clear: AI is no longer optional it’s foundational.
In July, the ITU AI for Good Global Summit 2025 in Geneva, organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) the UN’s agency for digital technologies, brought together global leaders from government, industry, academia, and civil society to address the opportunities and risks of rapidly evolving AI technologies, especially autonomous and agentic AI.
The summit spotlighted the emergence of agentic AI systems capable of autonomous reasoning and action. These models are becoming cheaper, more scalable, and more energy-efficient, but also harder to regulate, raising urgent questions about safety, bias, and governance. The summit responded to the UN’s Global Digital Compact, aiming to:
- Advance AI governance and standards
- Promote inclusive and ethical AI
- Build AI skills across society, from early education to lifelong learning
Why This Matters for Your Business
The summit’s outcomes send a clear signal: AI is accelerating faster than regulation, and companies must act now to stay ahead. Here’s what it means for your organisation:
- Start Early: Waiting for perfect regulation or tools is no longer viable. The pace of AI development demands proactive experimentation and enablement
- Upskill Now: The call for whole-of-society upskilling means businesses must invest in AI literacy and leadership across all levels
- Think Ethically: With global attention on bias, safety, and sustainability, ethical AI design is not just good practice, it’s a competitive advantage
- Be Adaptive: Agentic AI will reshape workflows, decision-making, and customer engagement. Companies must be ready to adapt quickly and responsibly
