Smith Anderson is a leading full-service business and litigation law firm serving regional, national and global companies. More than one-third of its 150+ attorneys have joined the firm from national and international firms, providing clients with a highly experienced and deep bench of support at favorable local market rates

The 112-year-old regional firm delivers innovative real-world solutions to clients who entrust Smith Anderson with their most critical and sensitive matters their businesses face.

The firm sought to migrate their email infrastructure from on-premises Exchange Servers to a cloud-based platform to save on hardware, software and personnel costs.

This case study explores the successful migration of Smith Anderson’s email infrastructure from on-premises Exchange Servers to Microsoft Exchange Online (EXO) using a hybrid approach. This transition aimed to modernize their messaging platform, leverage Microsoft365 functionalities and streamline operations.

THE CHALLENGES AND OBJECTIVES

Smith Anderson faced several challenges with their on-premises Exchange Servers:
