Taken together, the model allows organizations to figure out where they are in any function or department and what the notion of \u2018better\u2019 entails.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Maturity Model for Microsoft 365 is not about features, nor is it just about IT either; it uses a common language that all sorts of business roles can understand so that everyone can use the model.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The model consists of 5 \u2018levels\u2019 as follows:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Level 100 \u2013 initial<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Default, starting\/exploratory state&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>People-driven processes, lacking documentation and discipline\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Many ways of doing the same thing (with variable results)&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Characterized by inefficient legacy approaches and pockets of un-managed innovation\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Level 200 \u2013 managed<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Key processes defined but not standardized, uniformly or strongly applied\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Some ability to demonstrate consistent outcomes&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Limited buy-in from staff and management&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Widespread inconsistency and resistance<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Level 300 \u2013 defined<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Defined and standardized\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Signed off, managed process&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Limited validation of effectiveness, doesn\u2019t include edge cases&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Process users demonstrate familiarity&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Level 400 \u2013 predictable<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Actively managed in accordance with agreed processes and has tracked metrics&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Effective achievement can be evidenced across a range of operational conditions&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Process has been tested and refined&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Process users demonstrate competence&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Level 500 \u2013 optimizing<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Deliberate and systematic process improvement\/optimization&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Focus is on continually improving process performance&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Management of the processes are concerned with addressing statistically common causes of process variation and changing the process to improve process performance\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>\u201cIf we are going to manage information, we need to measure it and if we can\u2019t measure it how can we manage it?\u201d<\/em><\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can\u2019t manage what you can\u2019t measure.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this blog I\u2019m going to examine and discuss some of the concepts related to one of the key building blocks that should underpin every organization\u2019s journey into the successful adoption of Microsoft M365.
