Veritas has announced a \u201cmultimillion-dollar\u201d deal with Equinix for \u201cdedicated\u201d Sydney and Melbourne data centres to serve its cloud archiving service.<\/p>\n

The information management vendor said that the new facilities \u201cwill not be linked to data centres outside Australia\u201d, to ensure \u201cdata is stored solely in-country\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cRigorous Australian privacy and data integrity laws require companies to ensure customer data is strictly controlled or face potential fines and penalties,\u201d Veritas stated.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo meet these needs, the new Veritas data centres support secure workload migration to the cloud for enterprise, public sector, and small and medium-sized organisations.\u201d<\/p>\n

The company also revealed that the new \u201cmulti-year\u201d contract is the third Australian data centre investment it has made in the last three years, with Sydney hosting the primary storage and Melbourne acting as backup.<\/p>\n

The precise length or the precise value of the Equinix deal were not disclosed.<\/p>\n

The first solution to be hosted in the new data centre will be the Veritas Enterprise Vault.cloud, an archiving product for Microsoft Office 365 email.<\/p>\n

Insentra, an award-winning Sydney-based Veritas partner, has welcomed the move, with managing director Ronnie Altit telling CRN the dedicated Australian data centres \u201ctakes away the mental blocker\u201d for many potential customers.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a real bonus for our archiving solutions,\u201d he said. \u201cThere\u2019s a genuine risk every time your data is sent anywhere external, so [Veritas\u2019 Australia-only facilities] is about mitigating that risk.\u201d<\/p>\n

Veritas <\/span>completed its split from Symantec<\/a> <\/span>in January in a deal that ended up as a US$7.4 billion transaction.<\/p>\n
